Villanueva de los Infantes is the capital of the
ancient and infamous Campo de Montiel, the land that gave birth to
Don Quixote’s chivalrous wanderings and from whose very plain
the famous errant knight began his epic journey..
The town, one of the most beautiful in Spain, boasts an immense wealth
of historical and architectural monuments, and was declared Historical
and Architectural Monumental Collection in 1974. To stroll through
Villanueva de los Infantes is to be taken back to the cradle of sixteenth
and seventeenth century Renaissance Castille, at the time when it
had reached its maximum splendor as the region’s political,
civil and religious center. |
